Pet Brands' love for pets is not just evident in the fact that most of the employees own family pets or that Ozzie, the office dog, lounges and plays in the pet-friendly workplace.

The love is also clearly seen in the top of the line, brand name products they deliver and thoroughly test to ensure optimal quality and safety.

They own the exclusive license to develop accessories, such as raw hide chew products, toys and beds for well-known, trusted, national brands including Milk-Bone®, Gravy Train®, Kibbles ‘n Bits®, Nature’s Recipe®, 9Lives®, Pup-Peroni® and Snausages®.

Pet Brands are active testers in that none of their products have ever been recalled because they frequently test all of their products to ensure the highest quality. They even have a veterinarian on staff to review each product.

“Nothing gets in the boat [to import] until we’ve tested it and cleared it,” Gary Nutter, Pet Brands Vice President and General Manager said.

Pet Brands product line currently consists of 500 products, of which 100 new products were developed during 2008.

Growth is seen across the board. Since the company began in 2004, their business has doubled each year, even during the current economic situation, Nutter said.

"We recently hit a new high of receiving and unloading 49 containers in one day and shipping six million dollars worth of product in one week," Brian Snow, IT manager said in an ACCTivate! User Community forum post.

Pet Brands has been managing their business of importing brand name pet accessories with ACCTivate! since early May 2008. They manufacture overseas and are similar in their operations to a third party logistics company.

They have implemented several ACCTivate! modules and heavily utilize technology in their operations.

Pet Brands has implemented EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), as well as mobile and bar coding technologies, which requires 12 mobile access points for their vast warehouse.

“Our warehouse is 500,000 square feet with over 11,000 bar-coded locations with each location containing a pallet that may have 300 cases and over 1000 eaches,” Snow said in an ACCTivate! User Community post.

EDI has provided a streamline of efficiency at various levels for their business, through the supply chain from the order process to the shipping process, Snow said.

He also said that EDI comes along with many checks and balances that they wouldn’t otherwise get if they used faxes or phone communications to do business with their trading partners.

Pet Brands does business electronically with 25 stores (EDI trading partners) using EDI including well-recognized companies, such as PetSmart®, CVS, Kmart and Wal-Mart.

Pet Brands anticipates further growth in the future. Currently they are the third largest distributor of raw hide chews in the United States and in the next decade they plan on being first.
