Is EDI the same as eCommerce?
No. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a universally recognized standard for exchanging business documents between two companies. It requires an existing business relationship and an agreement as to which transactions will be exchanged, under what terms and conditions and the precise definition of the data to be included in each document. The standard was initially defined by the U.S. Defense department and later by the UCC standards organization. Currently the EDI standard is maintained by GS1, an international organization of major retailers and manufacturers with offices in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and Brussels, Belgium.
Isn’t EDI too expensive for a small or midsized business?

Configurability
The above example represents the typical usage of ACCTivate! and TrueCommerce within the order process and the associated EDI transactions. Wireless order picking, Advance Shipping Notice and printing UCC 128 shipment labels & carton markings are not required steps in the ACCTivate! EDI process, however, the ACCTivate! EDI process can be configured to meet specific needs.
3PL Support
ACCTivate! EDI supports companies that have chosen to outsource their warehousing and distribution operations to third party logistics (3PL) providers. The following provides a walk through of a standard 3PL order process:
